ACUTE PAIN

The Acute Pain Service is a Mon-Fri service run primarily by our specialist pain nurses from 0800-1700. Deb, Claire, Sam, Mel, Tash and Shannon are based in the Anaesthetic Department just in front of the sleep pod. They are very helpful and friendly so please ask them if you have any acute pain concerns. They carry the Acute Pain Bleep 1509 in working hours if you can’t find them in the office. Any out-of-hours pain concerns will be redirected to 9031 so they will let the 1st on-call trainee know if there are any patients they are worried about.

Consultant Ward rounds are carried out as listed below. If you would like to join us then please self-roster and then drop us a text or email just to let us know.

Our acute pain guidelines provide detailed advice on how to manage most patients (NBT intranet only)

Our guidance to using the Arcomed PCA and ketamine pumps (for anaesthetists only) is under the anaesthetic guidelines (NBT intranet only). The password for access to the guidance is 9030 and all the codes you need to make changes on the pumps are there. Please note you cannot put background infusions on our PCAs.

Please refer all PCAs / ketamine / epidurals / nerve block infusions via ICE - Referrals - Acute Pain.

Lastly – all the theatres have Acute Pain folders full of stickers. Please use them, they save your pen and assist with accurate prescribing.
