REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA
Regional anaesthesia is popular at NBT. We provide training for all Stages of the curriculum and a specific regional module can be requested. Targeted lists are plastics, renal and orthopaedics. However, regional anaesthesia is also performed outside these areas. Additional opportunities include a ‘Plan A blocks’ teaching session, use of phantoms and ScanNav and joining sessions with consultant radiologists on US guided intervention lists. Stage 3 trainees can also join the ‘regional’ WhatsApp group which advertises where blocks are happening.

A few pointers include:
-
There is a formally rostered daily “Blocks Anaesthetist”. You will be able to see who this is each day on CLW, so that you can ask them to do, or assist you do a block. You are encouraged to “never put in a block alone”.
-
Please notify the blocks anaesthetist/9030 early as possible if you want help to facilitate planning. If you see someone in POAC needing a block, it is helpful to notify those likely to be involved.
-
There is a video entitled "Nerve Blocks: An Information Video for Patients" (Link http://www.ra-uk.org/index.php/patient-info-video/video/nerve-blocks-an-information-video-for-patients)
-
Trainees interested in service/quality improvement, safety and/or governance projects will be encouraged and supported, as will those wishing to acquire the European Diploma or MSc.
